While I understand Bandai America's Dragon Ball Super products aren't the best, their Dragon Stars line isn't far off the articulation/sculpting of Bandai Japan's S.H. Figuarts line and, as an added bonus, they're much cheaper (with the S.H. Figuarts being $70.00 imports in Canada and the Dragon Stars being around $40.00). By supporting non-Japanese Dragon Ball products, more money will be made by the companies making them and, in turn, we're guaranteed a break from having to take out loans with each purchase as products will actually be sold in our countries. As an added bonus, the products may see a quality increase if the companies have more money to work with. Where I live right now, I can literally count the number of Dragon Ball products available to me on two hands (something that's a very big problem as I have to either scavenge whatever I can find at pawn shops or pay massive overcharges online). That wasn't always the case, but the majority of collectors buying from Japan killed merchandise sales over here. Just remember that by saving money, you help us all. Attachment Deleted

Just found vegeta and beerus at toys r us tonight. While vegeta looks a little off beerus is amazing. I only got beerus and I can upload pics if anyone wants a scale comparison. He is a little tall for 5" scale but it's not too bad and he would be easy enough to shorten at the shins if you felt the need to do so.
The back of the box shows the next wave which will be ss vegeta, base goku, and Frieza (possibility of golden frieza variant??).
Really happy to see these. I hope they sell enough to justify making more as I have been waiting for a north american line since jakks stopped.

They actually don't look bad. Obviously the articulation is inferior, but it would be interesting to see exactly how they compare to the Figuarts in that regard. But in terms of looks, one could even argue that that the Dragon Stars Vegeta head mold looks even better than the older Figuarts one. (The one used on PC Vegeta looks like a Datong in comparison to the new one.) But that Goku is a total pass. (LOL)
Either way, I don't see myself acquiring these since I already have their Figuarts counterparts. Here in The States, you can get the comparable Figuarts for around $40 each shipped. Awakening Goku is even less than $40 shipped, actually. And the new SS Vegeta for about $45 shipped to your door. And as an enthusiast, I crave higher quality and are willing to pay more for it. This would be going in the wrong direction for me, personally. Having said that, I think these might "fill the gap", so to speak, for younger demographics and other collectors who may appreciate the price difference more (due to availability and added shipping costs, like yourself.)

From what I've seen, the articulation isn't too far off the S.H. Figuarts line (with the exception of the lack of an ab crunch and such). On a side note, a friend of mine claims to get American prices on Amazon due to somehow tricking them into thinking his address is an American one. He isn't the type to lie, but I dunno...

I'm going to do a pictoral review the best I can. My camera is not good and it may be hard to do this from my phone but I will do the best I can to convince the rest of you to support this line. If you want to see any pics I do not provide just ask and ill see what I can do! The hardest part is getting pics to show what I am talking about so I will go ahead and list the pros and cons and update this with pics as I go (its dark and hard to get decent pics atm). scale: (sorry I don't own any real figuarts and my Irwin goku is the one with the wonky legs, still should serve as a decent point of reference) Originally I thought he was about 5" scale maybe a tad bigger but after comparing with other figures he seems to be right in line with figuarts. Still modifying this particular figure for 5" scale should be easy Attachment DeletedArticulation: as far as I can tell he has all the same minus abdominal crunch. I do not own the figuarts version to compare but this one does include a thigh swivel in adition to the ball joint. The tail moves as well. Accessories: 2 spare hands. He has a closed and open fist for each hand. Also each figure in this line comes with a piece of shenron. Beerus comes with the 2nd most bottom piece as well as the base (which may or may not be useful for other figures). originally I said I thought frieza may be a variant in the next wave but now that Ive taken a closer look, I think it will be goku since you need his "base" figure twice to complete shenron Attachment DeletedPaint and accuracy: this figure imo fully captures the anime look. Everything looks great minus 3 small nipicks and 1 big(how widespread these issues are I do not know). 1. There is a messy spot on left shoulder where a slight bit of white paint is on the skin. 2. There is a dark purple spot on the right ear (barely noticeable). 3. Paint is chipping off both shins. 4. There is a giant hole in the back of his pants where his tail goes. I am almost certain that is not accurate but pics incoming Attachment Deleted

Could be a qc issue who knows

Doesn't bode well. And right off the bat, I can tell that that Goku in the pic looks janky as heck. Frankly, these are aimed towards kids— not collectors.

Hey man, to each their own, you guys buy whatever you want. And at the end of the day, yes, toys are toys, but they all pertain to different tiers quality-wise. And thus the "collector value" is different for each line. And Bandai makes a crap ton of money selling SH Figuarts in America and Europe, BTW. These are not meant to displace or cannibalize their Figuarts sales. They're just filling the gap in the low end, so to speak.
But just a piece of advice, you might be able to make a stronger case if you actually had some Figuarts on hand to do a figure by figure review. But I digress. These are a pass for me. I already have their Figuarts counterparts.
Also, I hope you didn't take any of that as a personal attack on you. I don't mean any disrespect at all.
All the best,
Max

I wasn't saying either line is better than the other I was simply reviewing a figure that had not been reviewed yet on this forum. I don't need figuarts to tell you dragon stars beerus is a great toy. If someone else want to do a side by side that would be great. And I do realize they make a ton of money off figuarts sales in north america and europe, doesn't change the fact that those toys are overpriced compared to cost of production. I'd love to get into figuarts but I would want them all and jumping in now would cost a small fortune. Should this line take off we might see some less popular characters like what sbc, irwin, and jakks did. That is something that I think all db fans would be able to appreciate. I found a review that shows a side by side with shf beerus at the end if you are interested Well, I wish the line well. For me personally, the price difference is negligible. I got the comparable Figuarts for around $40. The Awakening Goku, for instance, was $35 shipped. So I'm willing to pay the difference. But if you're a completionist, and plan to get a whole line, it would definitely be expensive. Thankfully I'm not, and I only get the characters and figures I like. But like I said, I wish the line well. Kind regards, Max

I'm sorry, but you can't just label something "made for kids" simply because it doesn't look quite as good as the most popular Japanese imports. The sculpts in the Dragon Stars line may not be on par with the S.H. Figuarts line, but I'd much rather pay the $40.00 for a lesser sculpt than $60-70 as the figures are still very articulated and represent the characters well enough.

Y'know... I won't buy any of the figures from this line currently (I already have all these characters from the Figuarts line) but at the same time... I do support it in the same way I support Figuarts when they make characters people want but I have no reason to buy. It's not for me, sure, but I recognize the value of having this line out there.
Here's the thing: Figuarts is superior, in my eyes. I'm ok with the addition price point for what I get, since even the most sparse Figuarts comes with at least 2 changes of hands and expressions and are more articulated and detailed. BUT they're also BAD at coming out with secondary characters, to the point we're only just about to get Yamcha and Tien. If Dragon stars makes versions of, say, Fat Buu or Bulma... characters important to the series but that I'm ok having less articulation? Yes, I want that from this line, absolutely.
Right now though? In two waves and six figures, we have Two Vegetas, Two Gokus, Beerus and Freeza. Even if I wasn't already collecting Figuarts, I wouldn't start collecting this line until we got AT LEAST a Gohan, a Piccolo, and a couple other villains.

I'll support it when they make characters that haven't already been made to death. But I really don't expect them to make any figure that isn't already in the Figuarts line. If they were Irwin scale instead of Figuarts, I'd at least get Beerus.
