Jakks did some great figures, but not all were great. They were really hit and miss on some of the sculpts. Irwin usually had better faces imo. I go with Irwin, but I love both generally the same tbh.

I love irwin, because those were some of my 1st figures when i was younger, but I chose jakks simply because they gave us more characters to choose from. and they're worth more now a days

I gotta give it to Irwin. My particular favorite pieces are from Irwin 5 inch and IF labs and even the specialty lines like the blasters and striking z fighters stood as great figures too. The overall quality, paint, and sculpts were better. Also, a lot of the better Jakks figures were designed by Irwin anyway and those sculpts were acquired by Jakks when they bought the rights.
I tell you what though, I love that Dragon Ball series from Jakks with the Super Roshi, General Blue, Goku, Krillin, and Pirate Robot. Not to take credit away from Jakks but I wonder if Irwin sculpted that line?

Irwin takes the cake for me. Jakks had some nice sculpts, put they were too lazy IMO. Irwin always had new, otherwise unmade characters with nice unique sculpts. I agree that Jakks can get lazy when it comes to flawed paint applications and reusing sculpts. It's something that has been a problem with other lines they produce, especially their wrestling figures. I do have to give them points for articulation though. I'm a sucker for good articulation And since I don't know enough about Irwin figures to compare I have to give my vote to Jakks. Better the devil you know.

Irwin for sure. Let's not forget a lot of early Jakks stuff was actually Irwin's stuff they never got a chance to release like the Pikkon and some of the Buus for instance (there's unconfirmed rumors that figures like Cyborg Freeza and Imperfect Cell are Irwin's sculpt too). Irwin's sculpts were always improving as they went along and they took chances on releasing obscure stuff no other company would. Without them we would never get stuff like Bulma, Yakon, Dabura, Spopovitch, Evil Majin Buu or the Androids. Jakks was friggin lazy with the majority of their stuff being parts swapped Saiyan figures. They only realized their mistake too late when the line was dying. Let's not mention how they made GT figures in a different scale so they wouldn't fit in with all the other Dragonball figures relased. Ya, that was a smart move. Sorry but Irwin made me excited to collect Dragonball figures and they were the best.

Easily Irwin. I liked the faces and the paint job better on those figures...

Not sure about frieza and cell but I remember reading in beckett that some of the first figures released by jakks were actually sculpted by irwin. Irwin gave us many figures not released by others (garlic jr., jeice, burter, yajirobe, ginyu, the androids, imperfect cell, + many more) while jakks usually just rereleased the same figure multiple times or reuse parts from other figures and make a new figure that was never quite accurate (tien, bardock, bojack). Some of Irwin's figures were out of scale but at least they tried, unlike Jakks who just recycled old parts, much like their WWE figures

Even though some of Irwin's were out of scale like Yajirobe, Dende, Chiaotzu, Krillin, Gohan; it wasn't as bad as Jakks. Their Super Bojack is so awfully out of scale, it's sad.

At least the head sculpt on Bojack is great. Most of Jakks' figures are a little better than Irwin series 1-3, and series 5. Irwin series 4 was great though.

That's the sad part. Great Bojack head sculpt...on Tien's torso and Goku's legs.

I gotta go with Irwin. No red lipstick, scoliosis backs, re-used sculpts or big heads.

Oh god the hand thing.... I'd say that was one of the things that bothered me most about Jakks. It was a terrible looking design from the start, and they re-used it on so many characters. A lot of half way decent figures were ruined to me because of that.
